ARA Archive Volunteering Award for 2019

Do you want peer recognition for excellence?
Do you need evidence to show your effective engagement with volunteers?
If so, why not nominate your archive service for the ARA Archive Volunteering Award?

Winners will have a national platform to celebrate their volunteers' contribution to the service and gain publicity for their archive's role in supporting individuals and community through volunteering programmes.

2018 Award Winner was 'Ancestors at Sea', Lancashire Archives' project to engage new volunteers to create a free, online name-rich index of maritime records.

The judges said:

"'Ancestors at Sea' was the clear winner in an outstanding field. The new index gives details of over 70,000 seamen from Lancashire, the UK and Ireland and includes a significant number of European and international sailors, too. This is a first-class example of a local project with wider national and international relevance that could not have taken place without the strong support of partners and the commitment of the 17 volunteers that took part, generously giving over 2,300 hours of their time. We were particularly impressed that the volunteers were given challenging roles, for example working on a large number of documents and many with difficult handwriting, as well as being trained (and well managed) by the professional staff at Lancashire Archives."
The Archives and Records Association seeks to celebrate the role of volunteers in supporting archive services, and to collect good practice case studies to inform the wider sector. This award is a key strand of the work of ARA's Volunteering in Archives, Action Plan, bringing to life the recommendations the ARA report Managing Volunteering in Archives. The award is also supported by The National Archives, the Welsh Government's Museums Archives and Libraries Division, and the Scottish Council on Archives.

This award is open to archives across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Awards will be publicised widely throughout and beyond the sector.

We welcome nominations for the award. A short nomination form is available from the ARA website

Gwobr Gwirfoddoli Archifau ARA - 2019

Ydych chi eisiau cydnabyddiaeth gan gydweithwyr ar gyfer rhagoriaeth?
Oes angen tystiolaeth arnoch i ddangos eich ymgysylltu effeithiol gyda gwirfoddolwyr?
Os felly, beth am enwebu eich gwasanaeth archifau ar gyfer y Wobr Gwirfoddoli Archifau ARA?

Bydd yr enillwyr yn cael llwyfan cenedlaethol i ddathlu cyfraniad eu gwirfoddolwyr i'r gwasanaeth a chael cyhoeddusrwydd i rôl eu harchif o ran cefnogi unigolion a chymuned trwy raglenni gwirfoddoli.

Enillydd Dyfarniad 2018 oedd prosiect 'Ancestors at Sea', Archifdy Sir Gaerhirfryn i ymgysylltu â gwirfoddolwyr newydd i greu mynegai am ddim o enwau ar-lein o gofnodion morwrol.

Dywedodd y beirniaid:
"Yr Atebwyr yn y Môr" oedd yr enillydd clir mewn maes rhagorol. Mae'r mynegai newydd yn rhoi manylion dros 70,000 o forwyr o Gaerhirfryn, y DU ac Iwerddon ac mae'n cynnwys nifer sylweddol o morwyr Ewropeaidd a rhyngwladol hefyd. Mae hon yn enghraifft o'r radd flaenaf o brosiect lleol sydd â pherthnasedd cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol ehangach na allai fod wedi digwydd heb gefnogaeth gref partneriaid ac ymrwymiad y 17 o wirfoddolwyr a gymerodd ran, gan roi hael dros 2,300 o oriau o'u hamser. Roeddem yn arbennig o argraff arnom y rhoddwyd rolau heriol i'r gwirfoddolwyr, er enghraifft gweithio ar nifer fawr o ddogfennau a llawer gyda llawysgrifen anodd, yn ogystal â chael eu hyfforddi (a'u rheoli'n dda) gan y staff proffesiynol yn Archifdy Swydd Gaerhirfryn. "

Mae'r Gymdeithas Archifau a Chofnodion yn ceisio dathlu rôl gwirfoddolwyr wrth gefnogi gwasanaethau archifau, ac i gasglu astudiaethau achos arfer da i hysbysu'r sector ehangach. Mae'r wobr hon yn elfen allweddol o'r Cynllun Gweithredu, Gwirfoddoli mewn Archifau ARA, gan adlewyrchu argymhellion yr adroddiad a gyhoeddwyd gan ARA yn ddiweddar Rheoli Gwirfoddoli mewn Archifau. Cefnogir y gwobr gan Yr Archifau Cenedlaethol, Is-adran Amgueddfeydd, Archifau a Llyfrgelloedd Llywodraeth Cymru, a Chyngor Archifau'r Alban.
