Dear All,

The happiest New Year for 2019. I am seeking your guidance on a project on which I am currently engaged. I am wondering if there have been any historical studies done on Black family structures, in the UK and in Canada. There are quite a few studies out there, but these focus on the US as a case examples. The research I seek would consider living arrangements: i.e., single parent arrangements vs nuclear arrangements vs extended family arrangements.

Two key questions:
1. Have there been historical studies done in Canada and Britain on Black family structures?
2. The American studies use census data from the turn of the 20th century. What kind of historical source material would exist in the Canadian and UK archives for studies, in these two contexts?

Any feedback which you can pass on would be very, greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Esmorie Miller
