Trainee Archivist x 2 (1 year fixed term contract)
Salary: £20,564 per annum
Location: Maidenhead

Are you a dedicated and enthusiastic post graduate looking for a trainee opportunity to gain a range of experience prior to undertaking a formal qualification in either archives or records management?

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) ensures that 1.7 million people who died in the two world wars will never be forgotten. We care for cemeteries and memorials at 23,000 locations, in over 150 countries. Our values and aims, laid out in 1917, are as relevant now as they were a century ago.

The CWGC Archive is based at the Head Office in Maidenhead and contains records concerning each individual we commemorate and the history, policies and processes of the Organisation itself. Mainly consisting of administrative files, correspondence, minutes and reports, the collection also contains other material, such as architectural and cemetery plans, photographs, objects, audio/visual and digital records. As well as being in daily use by Commission staff, the Archive is also open by appointment to external researchers five days a week.

You will join the Archive team and enjoy the chance to become involved in all aspects of the teams’ work. You will have a good undergraduate degree or have equivalent relevant archive experience. You will be able to demonstrate excellent accuracy and attention to detail; manage a varying workload, meet agreed deadlines; work with minimum supervision and communicate with confidence.
