It seeks to highlight the biological component associated with the study of human bone tissue, valuing its importance as a vector of theoretical discussion regarding the human being study in several interconnected contexts. *Resumo longo / Long abstract* The concept of Bone Matters has its origin in the growing concern about the use of human osteological material recovered in various contexts, from archaeological, active (and non-active) modern cemeteries, forensic contexts, collections of anatomy museums, among others. The aim of this concept, is firstly, to enhance the biological analysis associated to the study of human osteological remains – with a focus on biological material that makes up the bone tissue, their development and interaction with the environment (internal and / or external to the individual) – this point is central to the justification of the use of human bone material in various disciplinary and scientific contexts; on the other hand the concept of Bone Matters, seeks to value and emphasize the importance of the study of bone tissues/remains while a theoretical vector of discussion regarding the study the human being in his/her context (social, cultural and environmental), its use as an object of curricula contents, culture and teaching practices, their role in the construction of cultural policies and practices, as well as ethical issues of access to human remains and their commodification and tourism potential. Both approaches are interconnected, deserving special attention in several disciplines.
