I would like to share this paid, summer research opportunity for US undergraduate students (sorry it isn't available to non-US students) in hopes that you may encourage your students to apply! This program is supported by the National Science Foundation and is an outstanding opportunity for students.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the Illinois Natural History Survey, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, announce the third year of a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) site, Exploring Evidence of theAnthropocene: Archaeological and Ecological Interdisciplinary ResearchExperiences for First Generation Students in the Upper Mississippi River System(NSF Award No.1659633). This REU site offers students experiential, interdisciplinary research opportunities in archaeological and ecological sciences addressing topics related to the onset of the Anthropocene. This eight week program will include five weeks of field research and data collection in archaeology, zooarchaeology, ecology, and fish ecology. The final three weeks will include integrating archaeological and ecological datasets to make meaningful inferences about the Anthropocene. This research experience is both intellectually rewarding and fun. Participating students also receive free housing accommodations and a $500 weekly stipend.

Who can apply: We seek applicants currently in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year of undergraduate studies, but will also consider applications from those seniors graduating in fall 2019. We are able to accept and support a total of 10 students.
