09:30 – 17:30
Wolfson Hall, Churchill College

The Churchill Archives Centre is proud to hold the scientific papers and
personal correspondence of Lise Meitner (1878-1968), who, according to
the inscription on her gravestone, was a physicist who never lost her
humanity.

In honour of Meitner, who was the second woman with a doctorate in
physics in Vienna and the first female professor of physics in Germany,
the Archives Centre is holding a one-day symposium in January. The
symposium will feature three panels that will explore Meitner’s life and
work as well as her scientific achievements and her political legacy.

Panellists include Dr Graham Farmelo, David Rennert, Professor Ruth
Lewin Sime, Dr Annette Vogt, Professor Dame Athene Donald, Georgina
Ferry, Professor Valerie Gibson, Professor Heinz-Eberhard Mahnke, Tanja
Traxler, Dr Helen Curry, Professor Sir Roy Calne, Stefan Frankenberger
and Sandra Schüddekopf.

The symposium will be held in the Wolfson Hall, Churchill College,
Cambridge CB3 0DS.

Admission is free. For more information and to book a place, see:
