Why Rachael Low Matters. In 1948 the first volume of The History of the British Film was published, written by Rachael Low and Roger Manvell. A further six volumes by Low followed. Now largely forgotten, this first major historian of British cinema is discussed by our expert panel: Ian Christie, Luke McKernan and Sarah Street, concluding with a BFI Special Collections presentation by Nathalie Morris, chaired by Elaine Burrows.
