Call for Papers Book 2.0, Volume 9 Issue 1 Special issue: Resurgence of Indigenous languages and cultures The United Nations has designated 2019 the ‘International Year of Indigenous Languages’ to recognize the central role that languages play in the daily lives of people; not only as a tool for communication, education, social integration and development, but also as repository of each person’s unique identity, cultural history, traditions and memory. Book 2.0 is an international, peer-reviewed journal concerned with the future and traditions of publishing, book production, writing, illustration, and all the ways in which cultures develop and are disseminated by both physical and digital means. The next issue will support and celebrate the United Nations Year of Indigenous Languages with a special issue on the resurgence of Indigenous languages and cultures, with a particular focus on the efforts of Indigenous communities to reclaim their cultures and languages, the support offered by allies, scholarly partners, publishers and others, and the history of resistance to colonial thinking and practices. This special issue is scheduled for publication in *Summer 2019*. Contributions are invited from scholars, authors, poets, illustrators, filmmakers, publishers, social and political activists and others who work to uplift and recognize the unique contribution that Indigenous languages make to our world’s rich cultural diversity. A sample past issue of Book 2.0 is available for free online at https://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/intellect/btwo/2014/00000004/f0020001 and the special issue on Indigenous languages will be made free to read one year after the publication of the print copy to ensure wide dissemination. This issue will be edited jointly by Mark Turin, Associate Professor Anthropology at the University of British Columbia, joint-founder of the Digital Himalaya Project, Director of the World Literature Project and pastchair of the First Nations and Endangered Languages Program; and Mick Gowar, Principal Editor of Book 2.0. If you are interested in contributing, please email [log in to unmask] and [log in to unmask] with a 300-word abstract, synopsis or other form of proposal and a 100-word biography by *15 February 2019*. -------------------------------------------------------- MeCCSA mailing list -------------------------------------------------------- To manage your subscription or unsubscribe from the MECCSA list, please visit: https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=MECCSA&A=1 ------------------------------------------------------- MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education.
