“The Hydrogeology of the Superficial Deposits” conference – Call for Abstracts 1 - 2 May 2019, The Geological Society, Burlington House, London http://www.hydrogeologyofthesuperficials.org.uk Following on from the highly successful Hydrogeology of the Chalk Conference in 2018, the Hydrogeological Group of the Geological Society (supported by the Contaminated Land Group) will be holding a two-day conference on the Hydrogeology of the Superficial Deposits in May 2019. A dedicated website (with online booking system) for the conference will be available via the Hydrogeological Group’s website in due course. A similar payment structure to the Chalk 2018 conference is envisaged, with buffet lunch and drinks reception included. Covering current practice and future challenges in the management of superficial aquifers in the UK and elsewhere, the conference will focus on the characterisation of superficial deposit groundwater resources and their role in flood risk and surface water / ecosystem support during the first day. The second day will focus on the role of man-made activities in changing the hydrogeology of superficial deposits (including physical engineering, abstraction, water quality and contaminated land). Abstracts (for either oral presentations and posters) are sought for sessions including geology, flow processes, groundwater / surface water interaction modelling, flooding, climate change, engineering infrastructure, ground treatment effects, quarries, natural water quality variation, hydroecology influences and contaminated land influences on water quality.
