We have already noticed a big decline in the number of au pairs coming to Hertfordshire. Some of our EFL classes are under threat as a result as this is our main market (not overseas students). The few au pairs who are here at present say it is because of the uncertainty over what will actually happen in March – they all know people who didn’t want to commit to a year abroad in the UK if the rules were going to change halfway through, or if there was likely to be chaos. Anecdotally, many have gone to Ireland instead this year.
