Dear colleagues,

With sincere apologies for the cross-posting, please find below the first call for participation to the Symposium “Cypriot Archaeology, Pre-Modern Material Culture, and Cultural Heritage in the UK” that is co-organised by UCL Institute of Archaeology, the British Museum and the Cultural Section of the High Commission of Cyprus to the UK. The symposium will take place in London, on Friday, the 5th of April 2019, at UCL Institute of Archaeology.

This is an open call to researchers and museum curators in the UK with an interest in Cypriot ancient history and archaeology, and cultural heritage to present their work in this one-day symposium. The symposium will consist of fifteen-minute presentations followed by discussion, primarily on UK-based projects related to pre-modern Cypriot archaeology, ancient history with an emphasis on material culture, and cultural heritage, including museum collections. This event will provide a platform to meet, network, present research and explore possibilities for future research collaborations. While this event is organised primarily for researchers and heritage professionals working in the UK, scholars from other institutions, especially in Cyprus, are also welcome.

Interested individuals should submit the title of their presentation and a short description (maximum 150 words) to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> by Friday, 8th of February 2019. There is no participation fee, but the participants are responsible for covering their own transportation and accommodation expenses.

The symposium will be inaugurated on Thursday, 4th of April 2019, at 18:30 with a keynote lecture by
Dr Jennifer M. Webb
Adjunct Professor, Department of Archaeology, La Trobe University, Melbourne &
Senior Research Fellow, Department of History and Archaeology, University of Cyprus
“Cyprus in the Middle Bronze Age:
New evidence from the Anglo-Cypriot excavations at Lapithos in 1913”
The lecture will be hosted at the High Commission of Cyprus, 13 St. James’s Square, SW1Y 4LB

This event is financially supported by the High Commission of Cyprus in the UK – Cultural Section and the European Commission Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (Project ReCyPot, No. MSCA-IF 747339).
