Job Advertisement: Closing Date 27th November 2018 The School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen's University Belfast seeks to make 2 permanent appointments at lecturer level in the Astrophysics Research Centre. We are seeking high calibre candidates with outstanding research track records (appropriate to career stage), who have the potential to build their own research groups and establish exceptional research programmes. Successful candidates will be provided with a generous startup package and PhD studentships to launch their research team. The lecturers will be expected to contribute to the research and teaching activities of the School, and to sustain their research team through external funding. Staff have access to many lines of national funding, such as the UKRI STFC, Leverhulme Trust and Royal Society, and European funding lines such as the ERC. The research interests of the successful candidates must complement and strengthen one of several existing research areas within the Astrophysics Research Centre. Specifically, the appointments will be made in the following areas: Area A: Supernovae and transients. Area B: Identification and characterisation of extrasolar planets. Area C: Studies of solar system minor bodies. Area D: Studies of the solar atmosphere from the photosphere to the corona. Candidates working in either theoretical or observational aspects of these areas are encouraged to apply. Also essential is an excellent record of high quality research publications (commensurate with stage of career) in one of the above are as, The research interests of the applicant may be in either observational or theoretical astrophysics, but must complement and strengthen the Astrophysics Research Centre's activities in one of the above areas. Applicants must demonstrate evidence of ability to teach Physics modules at all levels through the medium of English.
