With apologies for cross-posting, here’s a great postdoc opportunity from Newcastle!

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Spatial Inequality: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced researcher in spatial demography, spatial data science, or closely related sub-fields to join a multidisciplinary team to address questions related to demographic change, migration and mobility, and spatial inequalities. The successful candidate will work with existing secondary data sources as well as novel and emerging "big data" sources, will employ appropriate quantitative and spatial methods, and will have an interest in connecting results to practitioners and practice in policymaking and planning. Applicants will be comfortable working with R and/or Python, as well as standard GIS software applications, and will take responsibility for ensuring high standards for data management and replicability of results. Along with collecting data, supporting analysis, and writing up and presenting findings for academic and lay audiences, the post-doc may assist with organising project events, and liaising with other team members.

Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent) in geography or a closely-related field or be due to complete doctoral studies within 6 months of applying. Expertise in population and spatial data analysis and substantive research interests that relate to inequalities, wellbeing, and local, regional, and/or urban development are essential. Experience translating (whether in words or visualizations) analytical results to diverse audiences is desirable, as is the willingness to collaborate and, potentially, take initiative on research publications and project proposals.

The post-doc will join Newcastle University's growing Spatial Analytics and Modelling (<https://www.ncl.ac.uk/sam/><https://www.ncl.ac.uk/sam/>SAM@NCL<https://www.ncl.ac.uk/sam/>) group and will be part of the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (<https://www.ncl.ac.uk/curds/><https://www.ncl.ac.uk/curds/>CURDS<https://www.ncl.ac.uk/curds/>) in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology. This is a unique opportunity for a spatial data science-oriented scholar to work with world-class researchers in data science, as well as urban and regional development and policy. This is a three-year fixed-term position based in Newcastle. The successful candidate will work as part of a team led by Prof. Franklin in The Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies and [log in to unmask] For further information relating to SAM, please click here and for CURDS, click here.
