Hi Ryan,
i will send you the schematics later when i am back at work again, we have also a 1991 MAP 216 including the VPS120A, still running.

Betreff: Satisfying a MAP216 trip unit

Hi All,

I am in search of schematics or knowledge of either the:
1. “Trip Unit” to the rack electronics of a MAP216 mass spec or
2. An old VG— VPS120A ion pump controller.

A VPS120A is attached to the tube ion pump on my MAP216 and recently died. I’d like to replace with a newer controller, but the 4-pin “process trip” output of the VPS-120A connects to the “Trip Unit” of the MAP216 electronics and all rack electronics run through the trip unit. If the trip unit is not satisfied the rack electronics are not powered.

I have no schematics for the trip unit or the pump controller but presumably the VPS120A “process trip” signal is function of pressure and the “Trip Unit” is expecting a to read a voltage in some certain range. Does anyone have the schematics/information on the MAP trip unit or know of the expected output at the “process trip” of the VPS120A when say the pressure is < 10E-7 torr? I can experiment to figure out what satisfies the trip unit….but I thought someone might know the answer :)

Ideally, I’d like replace the ion pump controller with a new one that will still work with the Trip Unit. Otherwise I guess I can feed a separate signal to permanently/independently satisfy the Trip Unit but then I lose the nice protective feature of the trip unit for pressure spikes etc.

Thanks in advance for any help!

-Ryan
