Applications are invited for postdoctoral positions in theoretical
biophysics/computational chemistry in the group of Markus Meuwly in
the Department of Chemistry at the University of Basel,
Switzerland. The appointment is within the National Competence Center
of Research (NCCR) on Molecular and Ultrafast Science and
Technology. The initial appointment is for one year with the
possibility to extend.

Potential candidates have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics,
or related fields. A strong background in computational/theoretical
chemistry/physics (e.g., statistical mechanics, computer simulation,
electronic structure theory) and programming skills are essential. The
main theme of our research is to develop and apply state-of-the-art
computational tools for understanding reaction mechanisms,
intermolecular interactions and the nuclear dynamics in complex
systems, in particular biological macromolecules. The research is
carried out in close collaboration with experimental groups
participating in the network and within the EU-sponsored FP-RESOMUS
program.

The projects involve methodological developments building on our
recent efforts to use reproducing kernel based force fields
(J. Chem. Inf. Model., 57, 1923 (2017)), machine-learned force fields
(J. Chem. Phys., 148, 241708 (2018)), and various flavours of
multipolar force fields (e.g. J. Chem. Inf. Model., 56, 1479 (2016),
J. Chem. Phys., 147, 161712 (2017)).

Applications of interest within the network are concerned with
spectroscopic probes for multidimensional spectroscopy of protein
dynamics with spatial resolution, the 1d- and 2d-infrared spectroscopy
to characterize the energetics, dynamics and thermodynamics of protein
association (see Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 19, 24 (2017)) or the
structural dynamics in complex liquid mixtures (see
J. Phys. Chem. Lett., 8, 4600 (2017)).

Interested candidates should send a letter of intent and a C.V. (by
e-mail to m.meuwly"at"unibas.ch), and arrange for at least two letters
of recommendation sent to the same mail address.
