Melbourne ACIS Postdoctoral Fellow in Italian Studies at the University of Melbourne (2 years)

 

ACIS and The University of Melbourne have established a two-year ACIS Postdoctoral Fellowship in Italian Studies – to be located within the Italian Studies program in the School of Languages and Linguistics at the University of Melbourne. The expected starting date is 1 February 2019.

The Italian Studies program within the School of Languages and Linguistics at The University of Melbourne teaches a broad suite of undergraduate and graduate courses, maintains a vigorous research higher degree culture, and has an internationally-recognised research profile. It contributes to interdisciplinary teaching within the School, the Faculty of Arts and the wider University. 

The appointee will be provided with the opportunity and mentorship to build their own research profile in the School of Languages and Linguistics through the successful and productive development of an original research project in any area of Italian Studies broadly defined, including, but not limited to, literature, linguistics, history, political studies, anthropology, and art history.

In addition to publishing his or her own research in their chosen field, the Fellow will be expected to assist in the research initiatives of the Italian Studies discipline in the School of Languages and Linguistics and will be encouraged to collaborate in publications and other activities and be involved fully in the life of the Italian Studies Discipline.

The Fellow will also assist with the co-ordination of relevant seminars and engage in public outreach, including fostering of engagement activities with local partners. There is an expectation that the postdoctoral fellow will commit to a teaching workload of up to 25%, in Italian Studies, European Studies or Italian language and culture at an undergraduate and / or Honours level.

In order to apply, candidates must have been awarded a PhD from an Australian or New Zealand university after 1 January 2012 in any area of Italian Studies and be either citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand. Graduates who satisfy the PhD requirements and currently living in Australia under the Temporary Graduate Visa (485) expiring after the end of 2020 will also be considered.
