Dear Gemmers,
We’re finishing our year of events around Suffrage 18 with Stand Up for Suffrage on 14 December – 100 years to the day that some women voted for the first time. It’ll be upstairs in the function room in the George IV on Portugal St, London,
from 6.30-9pm and compered by Dr Naomi Paxton. There’ll be suffrage bingo, 5-6 speakers (hopefully!) and a suffrage Christmas tree on which to share what went well, who was / wasn’t remembered and ideas for what next.
I realise that we’re nearing Christmas and the date probably coincides with lots of things, unfortunately I don’t think they thought about that when calling the election in 1918! If anyone would like to share something you’ve observed,
learnt or a particular favourite or gripe about this centenary year please let me know – we have a couple of slots left. You can be amusing if you like but really it just needs to be punchy. If you can do it and it isn’t part of your work duties (i.e. engagement
as part of your job) we can pay a small honorarium so do let me know.
Also, we are charging a very small amount (£4) to avoid the usual mass Eventbrite bookings and no shows as the venue itself is small (the first drink will be free). However, if any of you want to definitely go, please let me know and I’ll
add you to the guestlist. If anyone has any access requirements, let me know in advance so we can assist.
The point is to mark the first election at which (some) women voted and have a relaxed informal event at the end of a tremendous year!
Hope to see some of you there.
All the best, Debbie
