> Hello FSL experts,

> I've recently taken a Debian stable box to the testing release (currently
called Buster <https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/>), and I'm trying to
install a recent FSL version on it. Things I've tried so far:

   1. *neurodebian* -- the Neurodebian version is now 3 releases behind
with no indication that it will be updated soon.
   2. *fslinstaller.py* -- this gives the error "ValueError: Bad version
string"; apparently it doesn't like the returned value of
   platform.linux_distribution, which is ('debian', 'buster/sid', '').
   3. *source compilation* -- this compilation was able to start (it seems
that at least the compile command was found), but did not get very far into
the compilation before it failed. The docs
   <https://fsl.fmrib.ox.ac.uk/fsl/fslwiki/FslInstallation/SourceCode> say,
"Depending on how different your machine and compiler are from the
closest match, you may need to edit the files...". I'm not sure how to do
   that.

Can anyone provide guidance for trying to install FSL and Debian
testing/buster?

> Thanks,
Andrew
