Call for Papers: Fashion, Costume and Visual Cultures (FCVC2019)

Proposals for individual academic papers, panels, provocations and practice based presentations are invited for the 2nd Fashion, Costume and Visual Cultures conference to be held at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles (ENSAIT), 9-11th July 2019 in Roubaix, France.

Fashion, Costume and Visual Cultures (FCVC) is the annual international, interdisciplinary conference of the FCVC Network, which aims to bring established, early career and emerging academics and practitioners together in order to explore key issues, theoretical debates, new methodologies and case studies exploring fashion and costume design and their distinct, yet simultaneously symbiotic relationship within contemporary visual cultures. 

Regeneration & transformation (economic, social, cultural and representational) will form a key conference strand within FCVC2019, with keynote and roundtable presentations by international curators, designers, makers and academics.  

Possible panel strands include, but are not limited to:
Throughout the conference visits are planned to arts and cultural venues in and around Roubaix (including La Piscine-Musée d'Art et d'Industrie André Diligent). There will also be numerous opportunities for networking and special interest group meetings. Presenters at FCVC2019 will be encouraged to develop their papers for publication in a number of Intellect journals, including: Film, Fashion and Consumption, Clothing Cultures, Critical Studies in Men’s Fashion, International Journal of Fashion Studies and Queer Studies in Media and Popular Culture. Proposals comprising a 300-word abstract, your full name, affiliation, brief biographical and contact details (as a Word .doc attachment) should be submitted to Dr Sarah Gilligan and Dr Graham H. Roberts at: [log in to unmask].  Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged via e-mail.

Please note: the conference will be held in English and French.

Conference fee:

Early bird waged: €200 (standard rate €250).
Early bird students: €150 Euros (standard rate €200).

The conference fee includes coffees, lunches and an evening reception & buffet.

Additional tourist / cultural events may be charged separately.
