The Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences at the University of Bradford is looking for a dedicated individual to undertake the role of external examiner for the MA Sociology, Social Policy and Crime programme with immediate effect for a four year term.

This Masters programme is a structured, campus-based course which offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of social sciences that reflects the academic strengths of the Division of Sociology and Criminology. Students study modules that will equip them with a wide range of knowledge and research skills. These include modules on crime and identity, asylum-seekers, human rights, social exclusion and research methods. These modules encourage a strong understanding of social, criminological and cultural factors at work in contemporary societies in the UK and abroad.
The MA in Sociology, Social Policy and Crime is taught by experienced staff with strong research records who have published widely in sociology, social policy and vocational and professional subjects such as education and social work. Academic work is assessed via a variety of methods including essays, exams, presentations and a dissertation.
An overview of your role and responsibilities includes:

Confirming the comparability of standards of student performance at University of Bradford with those of similar modules at other UK Institutions of Higher Education; confirming that the assessment process in its entirety is sound, and has been fairly conducted with full regard to justice to students; reporting and advising on the above by means of approving coursework and examination papers and providing an annual report to the University.

The appointee will be required to moderate a sample of work and you will also be required to produce an annual report and attend Boards of Examiners as appropriate.

You should have appropriate expertise/experience in the area of the Sociology, Social Policy and Crime field, with recent experience of learning, teaching and examining at postgraduate level.

You should not hold more than one other UK Higher Education External Examiner post at the start of the contract and be qualified to at least the level of the programme to be examined.
