Do you want to be part of an exciting new project to welcome refugees into Sheffield? Sheffield Project for Refugee Integration & Growth (SPRING) is a new European funded initiative that will offer holistic support to empower and enable refugees to meet their potential and integrate into the local community.
SPRING will help to address some of the gaps identified in the 2016 Review of Asylum Needs. It brings together six core organisations – Voluntary Action Sheffield (VAS), City of Sanctuary Sheffield (COSS), Citizens Advice Sheffield, Sheffield Association for the Voluntary Teaching of English (SAVTE), Sheffield City Council (through the LAASLO worker) and the mental health charity SOLACE.
The work will be based at City of Sanctuary Sheffield’s’ new city centre premises at The Sanctuary, creating the ‘one stop shop’ envisaged in the Needs Review. It will enable services and volunteers to coordinate activities and effectively signpost refugees, making their journey better supported and less stressful.
Citizens’ Advice will increase specialist advice, SAVTE will offer high quality English tuition, linked to practical and work-based situations. VAS will provide volunteering support and an increase employment support with particular reference to Universal Credit. And for the first time in Sheffield, and refugees will be able to access specialist counselling from SOLACE.
SAVTE are recruiting a highly motivated and experienced ESOL practitioner to join the project to design and deliver bespoke SAVTE ESOL courses, support the SAVTE volunteer training programme, and provide support and supervision to assigned volunteers who teach beneficiaries of the programme whether at home or in conversation groups at the City of Sanctuary.
This is a new role, and whilst it will be an integral part of the SAVTE Volunteer Programme, it brings new opportunities to develop bespoke ESOL courses for refugees which support their integration into Sheffield and UK life.
Applicants must have an ESOL qualification with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience in a range of community settings and can demonstrate that they share the community development values upon which SAVTE is built.
