The 8th Nordic Geographers Meeting Trondheim June 16 – 19 2019
Paper Session: Extra-Regional Dynamics, Innovation, and Development
Session Organizers: Samson Afewerki, Alexander Dodge, Asbjorn Karlsen, Henrik Brynthe Lund
(Norwegian University of Science and Technology)
Endogenous perspectives on interactive learning, knowledge spillovers, path dependency and other intra-regional dynamics have been a key focus in regional development literature, particularly since the “new regionalist”
literature of the 1990’s. However, over the past decade or so, a
number of debates in the field of Economic Geography including Global Production Networks, Regional Innovation Systems, Global Innovation Networks and Evolutionary Economic Geography have highlighted the significance of extra-regional dynamics and exogenous
perspectives on local and regional growth. This session invites speakers to present papers on a wide-range of topics concerning extra-regional dynamics, innovation, and development.
We welcome theoretical, methodological, and empirical contributions on the following topics:
· Strategic Coupling, Inter-Firm Dynamics, and Extra-Firm Strategies
· Intra-Firm Dynamics, Transnational Corporations and FDI Strategies
· Regional Innovation Systems, Extra-Firm Linkages
· Clusters, Related Variety, and Absorptive Capacity
· Global Innovation Networks
· De-locking and Path Creation
· Regional Upgrading in Global Commodity Chains
· Multi-scalar policy
