Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute, in collaboration with the University of Leeds Special Collections, is pleased to announce two short-term post-doctoral fellowship schemes for 2019.

The Brotherton fellowship scheme is designed exclusively for early-career researchers to make use of the Special Collections held within the Brotherton Library. Applicants may work with any of the Special Collections held within the Brotherton Library.

LAHRI and Special Collections have also collaborated with the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society to launch two new short-term post-doctoral fellowships available in 2019. These are designed exclusively for early-career researchers to make use of the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society Collection, held within Special Collections at the Brotherton Library. 

Scholars working in any discipline are eligible to apply for both schemes.  

 

About the fellowships

Successful applicants will spend four weeks in Leeds to carry out research activities aimed at developing the fellow’s ability to make strong applications to externally-funded post-doctoral positions which must then be held at the University of Leeds (e.g. British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellowships; Leverhulme Early-Career Fellowships; Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions; Newton Fellowships, Marie Curie Fellowships, Wellcome Trust Research Fellowships, NERC Research Fellowships). 

For the Brotherton Fellowships: on completion of their research, fellows are required to write a short report on their experience which will be submitted to the funding body, the Brotherton Committee and to write a blog post to promote the collection and their research, which will be used on the Special Collections, Cultural Institute and LAHRI websites. Blog posts from our previous Brotherton Fellows, Ruth Burton and Leonardo Costantini, outline the work that this scheme supported in 2018.

For the YAHS Fellowships: on completion of their research, fellows are required to write a short report on their experience that will be submitted to the funding body, the Yorkshire Archaeological and Historical Society, and to write a blog post to promote the collection and their research, which will be used on the Special Collections, LAHRI and YAHS websites.

Fellows for both schemes are awarded £2,000 living expenses and up to £500 travel expenses, while they are in Leeds.

Completed application forms for both fellowships should be submitted to the LAHRI Administrator in advance of the deadline at 5pm on Tuesday, 15th January 2019.
