Hi

If it is an event and if it has been communicated on invites, website, tickets etc and there is signage at the event saying photography is taking place then you should be ok. As long as people can approach you to ask to not be photographed. Best if the photographers are clearly identified as working for the institution.

If you are just shooting visitors which have not come to a public event then you would need consent.

In all circumstances under 18s and vulnerable adults need consent.

If people are part of a crowd(event) and not the main focus of the image then you do not need consent.

Any shoot with performers, models, actors etc also need consent

Any consent can be withdrawn at any time, which is problematic

For marketing type shoots we tend to use people we know or have a connection to someone at the museum to reduce the risk of this

Forms must conform to GDPR and the T&C must be on a separate sheet to be taken away by the individual.

If images are being used by a 3rd party. The form must include their name and details and they have to nominate a data officer who would be responsible for storing the images

This is a quick overview of what we do anyway

We have other staff helping with forms if we need to, otherwise you never get any images!

Good luck !

I try my best not to photograph the public now but leave it to our Marketing Dept. if they require public shots, otherwise I would spend my life filling in consent forms on Gallery.

Hi folks, I was just wondering if organisations are having to tighten up on photographing/videoing the general public (and indeed staff) at events etc. in light of the new GDPR regulations brought in earlier this year. Are you having to get permissions from individual participants and not just have 'cover all' signage on display. Any info on how it's working for you would be most appreciated.

Many thanks,
Anne
