Hi Amanda,

We haven’t performed a DAF survey at my university. However, colleagues working on a GDPR project last year performed an information asset audit last year that contained DAF-like questions. As part of this audit, staff members were asked to identify digital and physical material containing personal information that would be covered by GDPR. I notice UCD has assigned the Data Protection Officer to the university’s Record Manager. Did they perform a similar exercise, perhaps? As a minimum, GDPR could be a useful way to encourage people to complete a DAF survey.

In a previous role at King’s College London, I used a combination of DAF & DRAMBORA to identify digital files that were at risk. However, this only focused upon 6 departments and relied heavily upon interviews to collect information.

Regards,

Gareth

Hi,

Apologies if this has been asked before... University College Dublin is in the process of implementing its Research Data Management policy and as part of this a working group (chaired by the library) has been formed to gather information that will clarify the nature and scale of required supporting services and technical systems for the management of research data.  We plan on carrying out an institutional data audit to identify the types of data currently on the campus and how it is managed stored etc. We will be using the Data Asset Framework guidelines to carry out the survey and will create our own survey using the questions provided in the DAF implementation guide.. My question is has anyone carried out a survey like this where the focus was on the entire university rather than individual units, colleges or schools? And if they have, were there any major obstacles that were faced......our timeline for carrying out the survey/audit are quite tight so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Amanda Doran
