Dear colleagues:

I am pleased once again to invite you to attend Southwest Theoretical and Computational Chemistry 2018, which begins in just over two weeks!

The SWTCC meetings aim to attract participants largely (but not exclusively) from Texas and the neighboring states. This year's SWTCC will be held on the Edinburg campus of the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, from the evening of Friday, October 19th through mid-day Sunday, October 21st, 2018. Plenary lectures will be given by Profs. Jiří Vaníček of the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne and Dmitrii Makarov of the University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to featuring talks by senior researchers, the SWTCC meetings regularly include oral and poster presentations by students and postdoctoral researchers, who are especially encouraged to attend. Abstracts in .txt, .doc/x, or .pdf formats may be submitted online (or directly to [log in to unmask]) and may include a single optional graphic. The deadline has been extended to Friday, October 12th at 11:59 PM CDT, and we welcome your submissions!

Edinburg is served by McAllen-Miller International Airport (MFE), with regular flights to/from Dallas, Houston, and Mexico City; blocks of rooms have been reserved at several local hotels, conference rates of $46–$94 being assured as late as the week of the meeting. Registration costs are $80 for faculty/postdoctoral researchers and $40 for graduate/undergraduate students, and will be available online through the beginning of the meeting, with a 20% discount applied for registration before the extended deadline of Monday, October 15th. (Also included in the cost for senior researchers is attendance at the SWTCC banquet and steering meeting.) New this year is a "virtual SWTCC" option allowing remote participants to livestream the meeting and submit questions to the speakers through the SWTCC Twitter (@SWTCChem) for a nominal fee of $10.

Complete travel/hotel information, abstract submission, and registration are available at http://www.utrgv.edu/swtcc. Please circulate the link and this announcement to your friends and colleagues—I look forward to welcoming you all to the beautiful Rio Grande Valley!

Sincerely,
Shervin Fatehi
Organizer, SWTCC 2018
