To mark Prof Evelyn Welch’s 60th birthday and to celebrate her contribution to art history and material culture studies, we are holding a 1-day conference at King’s College London on Saturday 9 March 2019.

The programme covers three main areas of Welch’s research interests, showing a trajectory through her career: consumption, fashion and textiles, and the body, skin and medicine. Confirmed speakers have all at one time worked with Welch throughout this journey, and they are: Bruno Blondé, Maria Hayward, Paula Hohti, Lesley Miller, Hannah Murphy, Ulinka Rublack, James Shaw, and Tessa Storey.

To reflect Welch’s longstanding interest in supporting early career researchers and acting as a mentor for many at the outset of and indeed further along in their careers, we are including a session for ECRs to deliver lightning talks on their research. Lightning talks should be 3 minutes’ long, with no more than 10 slides. We welcome proposals on any area of research that intersects with the themes of the conference. Small travel bursaries may be available.

Please submit an abstract of up to 200 words along with your CV to Elizabeth Currie and Natasha Awais-Dean at [log in to unmask] by Friday 21 December 2018, indicating if you would require a travel bursary. Decisions will be made in January 2019.
