Hi everyone!

Some good news...We got a response from Innovative!

"Good news eventually. We found the information and will be able run a user copy from Test to Production.
Ports should be open between the two systems.
This process is expected to migrate all of the users from the source system to the target system.
You are aware that this procedure is not all inclusive, in that you should not be expecting a full and complete representation of all workflows, permissions, and applications. It does do most of the work for you, providing a great head start on the setup of your users, saving time and energy. However, you will still need to police each login, making sure that the user has what they need for Sierra. We suggest the library's Admin perform a side-by-side review of each user in each of the systems' Admin App's, to verify that things are matching, as Innovative does not expect this process to result in completely matching sets of users in all respects."

Specifically, 63000/63100 needs to be open between the server with Sierra preview running and the Test DB server.

Hopefully, if anyone else has to go through this, they can point to us and say it's possible....although it's not been done yet, and there's only 7 working days till we go live..eek!

Thanks everyone!

Andrew

Thanks Eoin/Jacob/Holly!

@Emma - yep you are correct ! Copy from our separate test instance to live/preview. We think it was either Ryder Gaddis or Adam Viel that told us a few times this was possible, although all in conference calls so nothing written to prove it!

Glad it's only 100-120 that the Library need to re-create, rather than 500! It's a bit frustrating as we have lost 5+ days of Sierra Preview time whilst we wait for Innovative to double-check whether it was feasible or not (still no definitive answer). We'll probably lose another couple whilst the accounts get created.

I think it's probably best I break the bad news to the Library otherwise we may waste more time waiting for an answer that may inevitably be 'no'.

Thanks again everyone!!

Andrew

Hi Andrew,

When you say test Sierra system do you mean a completely separate training server to your live server? If so I don't think there is a way for Innovative to easily copy from a test server to a live server (so we were told in the past anyway).

However, if you mean they are saying they can't copy from Sierra preview to Sierra live I'm confused as I'm fairly sure that they did it for our conversion (although I may be mis remembering as it was a few years ago that we migrated. From memory they copied over all our old logins from Millennium to Sierra. We then had to tidy these up as they were using the initials for permissions rather than the workflows setup. Once these were all tidied up and permissions assigned in Sierra Preview these were then carried over into Sierra Live.

(Apologies if I have completely misunderstood what you meant in your original message :))
Cheers
Emma

Subject: Sierra user accounts -- copying from test to live

Hi everyone,

We are almost migrated from Millennium to Sierra (yay!).

Very early on in the process, Innovative told us during multiple conference calls that if we created new user accounts on our test sierra system, they could migrate them over to the production system, with only a few minor configuration changes needed for each account after that. The Library needed to completely re-work their logons anyway, so this was a good opportunity.

We now have Sierra Preview, and Innovative are now saying that they don't think there is a way to copy the accounts from Test to Live. The Library face having to re-create all the work they did creating 100+ accounts/generic roles etc.

I was just wondering if anyone did this during their migration so we could point our assigned III project team in that direction?

Thanks,

Andrew
