September 27, 2018 - Danvers, Mass. - Copyright Clearance Center<http://www.copyright.com> (CCC), a leader in advancing copyright, accelerating knowledge, and powering innovation, will host a complimentary 30-minute webinar<https://go.copyright.com/l/37852/2018-09-25/sxn45n> in advance of Frankfurt Book Fair - Get Smart About "Plan S" - featuring Open Access (OA) expert Rob Johnson of the UK's Research Consulting<http://www.research-consulting.com> on Tuesday, 2 October 2018, 10:00 - 10:30 am EDT (15:00 BST/16:00 CEST/14:00 GMT).

Announced just weeks ago, "Plan S" is an initiative of 11 European national research funding organizations. It puts pressure on OA publishing business models by capping article fees, ending embargoes, and withdrawing support for "hybrid" OA journals. Robert-Jan Smits, the European Commission's OA special envoy, has said the "S" in "Plan S" can stand for "science, speed, solution, and shock."

"CCC is monitoring these developments and will work closely with all parties to address the acceleration of the transition to open access publishing," said Tracey Armstrong, President and CEO of CCC. "The business models and workflows used in scholarly publishing have greatly evolved over the last 10 years, and we support the collaboration of industry stakeholders by creating forums and tools that promote sustainable, transparent, and streamlined practices."

Rob Johnson is the founder and director of Research Consulting, a mission-driven business which works to improve the effectiveness and impact of research and scholarly communication.

As part of its partnership<http://www.copyright.com/copyright-clearance-center-partners-with-frankfurt-book-fair-2018-to-highlight-the-ideas-changing-the-publishing-world/> with The Frankfurt Book Fair<https://www.buchmesse.de/en> (10th- 14th October), CCC will also host a live panel presentation on this important topic at the Fair featuring Tim Britton, Managing Director, Open Research Group at Springer Nature, and others.
