Hi Nick
Apologies if you have already done this but…
That book grid ref is right in the middle of this image from Google Earth (December 1945):
NZ 276 333
Whereas the Pastscape grid ref included in the detail is in the middle of this image (looks more likely to my untutored eye):
NZ 261 334

Hi Folks
Thanks for various - and quick - replies – via an offlist one have found the book on the ADS, and had a quick through. As Julia says, its actually in there but not indexed, and only a passing reference really.
Frustratingly, the grid ref in the book is different to Pastscape. Time to ask for a DBA to resolve it I think…
best wishes

Hi Nick,
Spennymoor is listed in the gazetteer on p277 but doesn’t appear in the index.
The entry reads: Spennymoor, Royal Ordnance Factory, NZ 276 333, WW2, explosives factory – small arms ammunition.’

Subject: Dangerous energy - Spennymoor County Durham
Hi Folks
Does anyone have a copy of Dangerous Energy The archaeology of gunpowder and military explosives manufacture Wayne D Cocroft?
And if you do could you check to see if it has any information on a site at Spennymoor, please?
This is shown on Pastscape at
https://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.aspx?hob_id=1075766 and I have a Planning App just south of its location, so want to try and work out how extensive the site was ie did
it possibly extend into the application area?
thanks
best wishes
