Creating Digital Interactives on a Shoestring Budget

Monday 15 October, 9:30-16:30, Leeds Discovery Centre

A practical workshop for heritage professional to learn to create locked down simple interactive games, quizzes and layered digital content in-house and on a limited budget using Microsoft Powerpoint and free open-source graphics software.This practical day workshop aims to equip you with the skills you need to create high quality digital interactives for use on Microsoft Windows touchscreens in a gallery setting. Example uses include: Providing more detailed or specialist content that doesn’t fit in a physical exhibition, creating a quiz or interactive game linked to an exhibition, or even providing overall information for visitors on arrival. In the morning:

Learn the fundamentals of creating interactive content including:

        Creating buttons to trigger a range of actions

        Using in-built animations and transitions effectively

        Editing images, audio and video in Powerpoint

        Tips and tricks

        Useful open-source software to help with image editing and choosing colour palettes.

        How to find images online licenced for non-commercial re-use.

 

In the afternoon:

        Learn how to plan your interactive to save on build time.

        Work on your own projects, with support (see below).

 

Please note that this is a hands-on workshop and attendees will need to bring:

        A laptop with Microsoft Powerpoint installed (preferably 2013 or above) and wifi capability.

        Basic working knowledge of Powerpoint (inserting text and images).

        An idea of what kind of interactive you would like to create.

        Assets to create your interactive with (images / text / videos etc. Please note, these do not need to be complete or final copy, but something you can work with.)

        A computer mouse. (Not essential but highly recommended).

 

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.

The event is in partnership with GEM Yorkshire and Humberside.
