We had this issue too Ros for the last 2 years, 2 inspectors happy with certain paperwork and the 3rd wasn’t.  I complained both times but JCQ were having none of it but I still made my point.  To me JCQ are not undertaking their role, at one time they were striving for consistency between boards but now we’re going back to numerous regulations, and more apparent differences between the way the boards work….anyway back to Tuesday…. Many Thanks

Too true, David.

We have three centres covered by three inspectors (quite geographically separate) and two inspectors accepted our contingency plan last year and one didn’t – even though it’s the same document.  Gets a bit wearing on the soul having to chase around to sort these things out.  I get slopey-shouldered when asked further information about AAs – they should follow their own guidance and stick to asking the ALS experts about them…

Best wishes

Hi Ros

Thank you for your reply.

We do that anyway, but at the last AA inspection at another of my centres, the Inspector insisted on seeing the originals with the “wet” signatures, which are filed in our ALS department. I guess the Inspectors all work differently?

Hi David

We make a copy of the Form 8 and the AAO approval available for an inspector for exams whilst the ALS team hold the full portfolio of NWoW, supporting evidence plus the Form 8/approvals.  Our inspectors have been happy with being able to see this at inspections and it gets around the problem you have described (but kills a rainforest in the process).

Kind regards

Subject: JCQ Inspection issue

Hi

Last summer, JCQ arrived to inspect one of our centres on one of the busiest days – GCSE English. We passed with no issues, but, when they then asked to look at Access Arrangements evidence, we were unable to show them the files, because the department responsible (ALS) was helping with supporting students in the Exam. We subsequently received a letter quoting 4.2.13 in the orange book, saying that in future we must ensure the records are available to show inspectors.

Our dilemma is; either ALS gives us access to all their files and filing, but it is challenging being an “expert” for another department; or we swap the appropriate ALS person with an exams officer  during the exam, which is disrupting for the student, and we might not have the suitable training to replace that person (reader, scribe, OLM, signer).

I had rather thought that JCQ was separating Access Inspections so that only exams are visited on the very heavy days?

Any thoughts?

Kind regards

David
