Community arts projects often engage with refugee groups. Theorists have argued that these practices can serve as pathways to solidarity, and that this is important and valuable given the apparent absence of solidarity with refugees amongst host communities, which has contributed to the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. This project asks how storytelling and arts engagement can foster solidarity with refugees and what these practices tell us about the theory of solidarity. At the heart of the project is a collaboration with Opera North Ltd, led by their Head of Community Partnerships. Candidates We are looking for someone with a strong educational record to Masters level, with interests in areas relevant to theories of solidarity, and ideally relevant experience of, or interests in, the refugee sector. The successful candidate will be based in the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds and will also spend time with Opera North Ltd on their Community Partnerships scheme. Important note: If you are selected by the CDA project team to be put forward to WRoCAH* your application will be considered competitively within the main WRoCAH competition (deadline 23rd January 2019). Being put forward for consideration is not a guarantee of funding. *WRoCAH is a Doctoral Training Partnership of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It is responsible for the distribution of doctoral studentships, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), provided for these universities and for the coordination of a doctoral training programme.
