Research Assistant/Associate (Fixed Term)

Research Assistant - £26,243 - £30,395
Research Associate* - £32,236 - £39,609

The Unit is offering an exciting biostatistics position currently available in the University of Cambridge. This appointment will be made at either Research Associate or Research Assistant, depending on achievements and experience and would be mostly working on some very interesting applied projects as part of a team of statisticians from the Papworth Trials Unit Collaboration. Additionally, there will be lots of opportunities to interact and collaborate with researchers both in the MRC Biostatistics Unit and Papworth to develop studies that apply novel methodology in practice if that would be of interest!

The MRC Biostatistics Unit (http://www.mrc-bsu.cam.ac.uk), located in Cambridge, undertakes research on statistical methods and their application to the design, analysis and interpretation of biomedical studies, to advance understanding of the cause, natural history and treatment of disease, and to evaluate public health strategies. Candidates for Research Associate position will have a PhD in statistics, or a relevant discipline; computing experience, statistical packages (e.g. R) and experience in design of clinical trials. A Research Assistant appointment will have an MSc in Statistics or a relevant subject (or close to completion). You must have good communication skills and be able to contribute substantially to writing scientific papers.

*Appointment at research associate is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience is recognised), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be awarded or submitted appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded. If an individual has not submitted a PhD or is not working towards one they could be appointed as a Research Assistant if they have either a degree (and/or Master's) in a relevant area or equivalent experience.
