Mathematics Education Web Application Developer

Salary: £29,799 to £38,833

Closing date: 10 September 2018

The Millennium Mathematics Project (maths.org) at the University of Cambridge has an exciting opportunity for a graduate in mathematics or a very closely related subject, with an interest in mathematics education and communication, to design and develop engaging interactive applications for our mathematics education websites.

The role holder will design, develop and publish interactive mathematics education tools and applications on MMP websites, aimed at school students and teachers. In particular, the role holder will have sole technical responsibility for designing engaging, age-appropriate interactive educational content to publish on our very high profile NRICH website (nrich.maths.org), which publishes free mathematics education resources for all ages from 3 to 18.

You will work in close collaboration with the other members of the NRICH team, who come from a mathematics teaching background, to help implement their educational content ideas. As well as creating interactivities for new resources, a priority is also to upgrade legacy content by redesigning existing Flash interactivities to ensure full accessibility across all platforms, including mobile.

The successful applicant will be a graduate in mathematics or a closely related subject. An excellent understanding of the mathematical content is essential, as is experience of online interactivity design and an interest in and understanding of the mathematics education context. You will be able to work well in a small and busy team, and have good communication skills. The successful applicant will have the demonstrable ability to create online mathematical interactives in Javascript and HTML5, user experience design skills, and experience of optimising content for all the common operating systems, both desktop and mobile.
