Last chance! We are looking for a Fellow - Post Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) - in the area of communicating science, in particular, communicating statistics, risk, and uncertainty, who has interest in applying this knowledge to the legal sphere as well as to broader non-specialist audiences.

The selected individual, funded by Winton philanthropies, will become part of a team based at the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science (LRCFS) at the University of Dundee, UK. LRCFS is a 10 year £10 Million project funded by the Leverhulme Trust that aims to create productive and disruptive change in the realm of forensic science. The Centre’s interdisciplinary team, in partnership with the judiciary, scientists and academics across the domains of science and law, develops and designs new solutions for the scientific challenges that forensic evidence faces. Fundamental to this work is our ability to design more effective strategies for communicating statistics, risk, and uncertainty in all areas related to the delivery of fair justice.

The LRCFS has created a unique partnership with The Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication and the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. The Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication, University of Cambridge, UK is a ground-breaking research centre based in the Centre for Mathematics, aiming to enhance and develop the public understanding of risk. Its work and approach are underpinned by the belief that all have a right to balanced evidence on issues important to them and it works across spheres ranging from the medical sciences to journalism. The Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, New York is the pre-eminent leader in communication training and research. Through dynamic, interactive communication workshops, the Alda Method™ of training seeks to engender strong listening skills and empathy in scientists through its improvisational-based approach, while the Center’s research agenda looks at evidence-based strategies to inform the design of new communication training models.
