I am organizing a Latin reading group making use of MR James' 12 Medieval Ghost stories (and if fanyone is aware of a translation on line, I would like to know . . ) Anyway, I have hunted in the Latin dictionaries most likely to have medieval material and have been unable to come up with a definition for the verb 'conjuro' which MUST mean something related to 'conjuration', as one might conjure a spirit.

The "Twelve Medieval Ghost-stories" are discussed in Episode 49 of the M.R. James Podcast ("A Podcast to the Curious"). They mention translations, including at least one online. Be warned that this is a Christmas episode...

I am most surprised that no-one has mentioned the Dictionary of Medieval Latin from British Sources [as we are discussing a British source!] This is online (after a fashion..) at Logeion and the relevant definition of "coniuro" can be forced by entering "conjurare":
