DIGITAL DEMYSTIFIED: New Developments for Museum and Gallery Learning

Engage London Area Group Meeting

Thursday 27 September 2018, 2.15 - 5pm
National Maritime Museum, Park Row, London SE10 9NF

Engage members and regional colleagues are invited to join London Reps for an Area Group Meeting investigating the latest approaches to technology in arts and heritage education.

Ed Lawless, Education Manager at the British Museum's Samsung Digital Discovery Centre, will share the latest from SDDC's learning programmes, and conduct a workshop to get participants thinking about how to effectively engage audiences of all ages using the latest technologies.

Joanna Salter, Senior Participation Manager at the National Maritime Museum will speak about the Museum's current project ‘RE·THINK Digital’. This month sees the opening of four new interactive galleries at the National Maritime Museum, all influenced by the RE·THINK participation space, a playful feedback space within the Museum open between 2014 and 2016. The next phase of this project, RE·THINK Digital, is a ground-breaking project to link, store and analyse all visitor responses to digital and analogue interactives and activities across sites. Through doing this, the Museum hopes to both get a better understanding of its visitors whilst also creating a system for highlighting visitor generated content to other visitors.

James Steventon, Director of Fermynwoods Contemporary Art & Engage Special Interest Rep (Digital), will share some of Fermynwoods approaches to art and technology, including the use of 3D scanning to create and interrogate digital and non digital sculptural artefacts.

Additional presenters will explore how digital is shaping learning strategies for visitors and schools. A great opportunity to gain up-to-date knowledge on this rapidly changing field of learning. This event is appropriate for professionals embedded within institutions as well as freelancers and teaching artists. Participants will also get to check out the RMG's new galleries.
