Hello Zena,

 

I always demonstrate the Advanced Search with 'Map Terms' first, and strongly emphasise its use.  I do also demonstrate plain searching without mapping.  I haven't asked formally, but I think students prefer plain searching, but I don't think that is the best way to search (and, of course, a systematic search would have to use both).

Subject: How do you teach Ovid to undergraduates?
 

Afternoon all,

 

Our default search page has always been Advanced Search with Map to Subject Heading switched on.  However, we are considering turning Subject Headings off, for our post-induction training sessions, in an effort to simplify the search process for undergraduates.

 

How do you have your search page setup?  Do you have a preference re the Subject Heading function?  More importantly, do students seem to have a preference?? 

 

I would be very interested to hear about your experience.
