I've seen a very similar error when I tried to get PRONTO, which also uses Matlab, to run under High Sierra. Are you by any chance running Matlab <= R2017b? For me, updating to R2018a fixed the issue. 

I think it had to do with the list of compiler versions that were accepted by Matlab for compiling MEX files, which did not include the one that came with High Sierra.

It's a wild guess, but if your license allows you to upgrade to Matlab R2018a, it might be worth a try.
