Thanks Juan for sharing this letter. Unfortunately, what started out as a great ‘idea’ of ‘collaboration’ has turned into what it is today. It’s a shame that the principles that once were enshrined in Cochrane members have been eroded and science now comes second only to politics and the bottom line. So we must ask ourselves how (and if) Cochrane as an organization is different from industry. Maybe the goal to eventually change the organization from an independent scientific body that prides itself in identifying and critically-appraising the evidence to an organization guided by the bottom line. It truly is a shame to see the countless hours of volunteer researchers over the years that helped build the Cochrane name (and brand) be tarnished by thin-skinned corporate-minded leaders that would rather suppress protest and opposition than work towards self-improvement. Maybe it is time to reflect on where Cochrane rooms started, where it is today and where its headed before it’s too late.
