The first set of finalists for the Digital Preservation Awards 2018 is revealed today, with many innovative and impressive projects, organizations and individuals being recognized for their achievements.

The prestigious Digital Preservation Awards<https://dpconline.org/events/digital-preservation-awards> are a world-wide celebration of significant and state-of-the-art contributions to securing our digital legacy. This year the exciting process will culminate in a spectacular awards ceremony in Amsterdam, as part of an International Conference hosted by the Dutch Digital Heritage Network<https://www.netwerkdigitaalerfgoed.nl/> and the Amsterdam Museum on World Digital Preservation Day<https://dpconline.org/events/world-digital-preservation-day> (previously International Digital Preservation Day) on Thursday 29th November 2018.

Chair of the judges and Head of Technology for BBC Information and Archives Steve Daly said, 'Year on year we receive more and more nominations from around the world, and this year was no exception. The judges had an enormous challenge deciding on a set of finalists, when the quality of all applications was so outstanding.'

Finalists for the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI) Award for Research and Innovation are (in no particular order):

  *   ePADD, Stanford University
  *   VeraPDF, VeraPDF Consortium

Sponsor of the Award for Research and Innovation, Neil Chue Hong of the Software Sustainability Institute said: 'I am delighted to be able to share the work of our finalists. Each one demonstrates world-class innovation and research which has the potential to benefit the entire digital preservation community.'

Before the judges decide on the winners, members of the Digital Preservation Coalition will be invited to cast their vote on each category once all the finalists have been announced. Members will be asked to select their first and second choices for each category and are asked to provide feedback to the finalists. Each Full Member, Associate and Allied Organisation of the DPC may submit one vote.

Member votes will open on Monday 10th September

Finalists will then wait until the prestigious Digital Preservation Awards ceremony at the Amsterdam Museum where winners will be announced in front of their own digital preservation community, friends, family and peers from leading organizations on World Digital Preservation Day.

The Digital Preservation Awards is supported by some of the leading organizations in digital preservation.<https://dpconline.org/events/digital-preservation-awards/credits-and-sponsorship>
