I agree with you Mark about the immature nuts but I wondered if they could be immature Corylus nuts rather than Quercus?

Dear Luke,

They look like failed nuts, possibly Quercus.

Best wishes,

Subject: Unidentified Waterlogged Woodland Seed

Hi all,

I have encountered a number of waterlogged seeds which I have been having difficulty identifying. These were recovered from waterlogged organic deposits in Central Bedfordshire, England, of an as-yet-unknown date which have yielded a rich assemblage of deciduous woodland material.  I have attached images of these seeds (the small squares in the background are 1mm size) and I was wondering if you had any ideas about what these could be?

Many thanks,
Luke
