This is the 10th anniversary of events in The Boreal Poetry Garden â€”
an independent project by Marlene Creates.
These multi-sensorial events involve walking, listening, observing, touching, tasting, and exchanging knowledge.
They have included multi-disciplinary artists and natural scientists in the belief that appreciating the boreal forest ecosystem in which we live is at the root of meaningful conservation.
Since 2008, over 700 people have attended these events, some of you many times.
Thank you all for your support.

Katie Baggs is a St. John’s singer/songwriter. She is also a mother and an educator. She says she strives to keep looking at the world with wonder, the way children do, and that kind of thinking inspires her to write songs.

Marlene Creates is an environmental artist and poet. Currently, a retrospective exhibition of her work, titled Marlene Creates: Places, Paths, and Pauses, is touring nationally and will open in October 2019 at The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in St. John’s.

Denise Hennebury is a philosopher, environmentalist and youth leader. She says she loves to inspire others to be the best they can be for their community and for the Earth. These days she does that through her work as an educator at The Fluvarium and as the mom of three wild little ones.

Don McKay is a poet and essayist who has published numerous books that have won many awards. Don began his career with The Boreal Poetry Garden as the parking attendant, and his duties now include security, box office, and assistant principal moose horn.

Anna Swanson is a librarian and a poet originally from Vancouver who now makes her home in St. John's. Her first book of poetry, The Nights Also, won a Lambda Award and the Gerald Lampert Award. She says swimming in wild places is her survival joy.
