The System Dynamics Society Special Interest Group in Transportation are pleased to be guest editing a special issue of the Journal of Simulation on 'Simulation in Transportation'. Authors interested in submitting to the special issue are strongly advised to send a two-page abstract to the special issue editors by 14th September to check whether the work is within the scope of the special issue. The editors will notify authors as soon as possible but definitely by early November 2018 if their work is suitable for inclusion. Full paper deadline is 31st March 2019. Papers that have not gone through this process will still be considered but the authors are taking a risk that their papers will be outside the special issue's scope. Although particular interest will be given to system dynamics, agent-based, discrete event and similar or complementary simulation models will also be considered. Objectives : - Enable or offer potential of cross-fertilisation between simulation models (specifically system dynamics, agent-based, discrete-event) within transportation research; - Demonstrate the success of simulation models in transport-related operational research, particularly over the past decade; - Demonstrate the transportation policy implications of using simulation models. Suggested topics (related to transportation): - Innovative hybrid simulation models eg using system dynamics with agent-based modelling or discrete-event simulation; - Techniques, tools, methods and technologies of the application and use of simulation in operational research; - Model structure and calibration; - Policy optimisation and implications; - Flight simulator applications used for teaching/policy making purposes. We aim to publish the special issue in 2020 with online publication of articles as soon as they have passed through the review process successfully.
