Dear Colleagues,

Dear PhD Students,

*PhD student position – Neurobiological underpinnings of arousal and
attention regulation in ADHD – final call*

*Closing date: August 15, 2018*

Ghent University, Belgium, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences

We are seeking a highly motivated full‐time PhD student for a project
funded by the FWO (Research Foundation Flanders) with a duration of 4
years, investigating the neurobiological underpinnings of arousal and
attention regulation difficulties in ADHD. The research will be under the
supervision of prof. dr. Jan R. (Roeljan) Wiersema and prof. dr. Nico
Boehler.

*Project:* There is a long tradition of explaining ADHD and associated
impairments in terms of arousal regulation difficulties. While many studies
found support for this, little is known about the underlying
neurobiological substrates. The locus coeruleus (LC), a small nucleus in
the brainstem, plays a pivotal role in arousal and attention regulation,
and LC dysfunction has been hypothesized in ADHD. In the current project,
we will therefore test this hypothesis by means of fMRI, EEG, and pupil
measures.

*Qualifications:* The successful candidate must have a Master’s degree in
Psychology (clinical, experimental or neuropsychological) and/or
(cognitive) neurosciences. Previous expertise or training in (cognitive)
neuroscience is preferred but not mandatory. Active knowledge of Dutch is a
strong advantage (testing individuals with ADHD in Flanders, Belgium). The
position will preferably start October 1, 2018. Review of applications will
start immediately and continue until the position is filled.

*Environment: *Ghent offers an exciting environment and high standards of
living. Our research group offers access to fMRI facilities and several
high‐density scalp EEG systems. Scholarship: starting at around €2000 per
month net salary. Required application materials to be sent electronically
(preferably PDF): cover letter, CV, and contact details of 2 academic
referents. Informal enquiries and applications can be addressed to Roeljan
Wiersema via email: [log in to unmask]
