It’s not in our collection so I’m not able to get any more photographs of it unfortunately. That’s an interesting suggestion, it doesn’t seem like it would stand any other way as it definitely seems to have 4 legs that it stands firmly on but I’m sure we will be going across to look at it again so I will see if it makes sense standing any other way. Do you have any pictures of the ones that you’ve seen by any chance just to give me an idea of what you mean? The plates fit through the 1 cm gap and rest in the 1cm rebate on the other piece of wood. I've seen similar displaying decorative plates, mid 20th century. could be wall hung or stand on a piece of furniture. Solid supports at either end have shaped cut-out panels at their bases, between low ‘feet’, the top edge of the supports cut with a double scallop. Narrower side rails join these supports. One is cut on the inside with a 1cm deep rebate; the other is formed of two rails with a 1cm gap at the same height.” The piece itself is approx 40cm long X 15cm wide (I don’t have the object in front of me so that’s from memory I’m afraid) so it’s much smaller than you might think from the picture.
