Great timing for this thread.

I’d suggest - Reflective Teaching in Higher Education (2015) by Paul Ashwin and colleagues https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/reflective-teaching-in-higher-education-9781441197559/

Best wishes,

Colleen

Thank you, for kick-starting this thread.

I would suggest Jennifer Leigh's Conversations on Embodiment across HE as something different and less obvious but incredibly insightful.

Subject: Educational texts

Good morning all,

We are updating our reading lists on educational texts/learning and teaching in HE. I was just wondering which books you use as recommended reading on your PG Cert of Academic Practice (PGCAP/PCAP or equivalent)? Have any good, new books been published more recently and are more up to date?

We use these:

·         Biggs J, Tang C. Teaching for Quality Learning at University. 4th ed. Open University Press, 2011

·         Butcher C, Davies C, Highton M, Designing Learning: From Module Outline to Effective Teaching, Routledge, 2006

·         Fry H, Ketteridge S, Marshall S, A Handbook for Teaching And Learning in Higher Education: Enhancing Academic Practice, Routledge, 2008

·         Petty G, Teaching Today, A Practical Guide, 5th ed, Oxford University Press, 2014

·         Petty G, Evidence-Based Teaching, A Practical Approach, 2nd ed, Nelson Thornes Ltd, 2009

·         Race P, Making Learning Happen, 2nd ed, London, Sage, 2010

And if anyone else is in Medical Education, are there any medical education text books that you would recommend? We use:

·         Cantillon P, Wood D, Yardley S. ABC of Learning and Teaching in Medicine, 3rd ed. Hoboken, NJ: BMJ Books; 2017

·         Dent J, Harden, R, Hunt D. A Practical Guide for Medical Teachers, 5th ed. Edinburgh; New York: Elsevier; 2017

·         Harden RM, Laidlaw JM. Essential Skills for a Medical Teacher: an Introduction to Teaching and Learning in Medicine, 2nd ed. Edinburgh; New York: Elsevier; 2017

·         Swanwick, T, Forrest, K, O'Brien, BC. Understanding Medical Education: Evidence, Theory and Practice, 3rd ed. Hoboken, NJ: Wiley-Blackwell, 2018

Many thanks for your recommendations

Best wishes,

Martina
