Dear All

This is  a reminder that the annual general meeting of the RACE working group takes place at the RGS-IBG Annual Conference in Cardiff on Thursday 30th August, 13.10-14.25 – Glamorgan Building, Seminar room -1.61. You are very welcome to attend and AGM passes are available to those not otherwise planning to attend the conference. If you need a pass please email [log in to unmask] to request this.
Please be advised of the following committee vacancies and opportunities:

Chair and Treasurer; ordinary members.  Please note that Chair, Secretary and Treasurer and other committee members shall be for a period of three years. Honorary officers may stand for a second term of three years, but must relinquish their post after the sixth year of office.

Nominations (proposer and seconder) or expressions of interest (who must be Fellow or Postgraduate Fellow) to any of the above posts can be presented prior to the AGM by email or in person to the current secretary, Pat Noxolo ([log in to unmask]).  If you are not able to attend the AGM in person please send an email explaining why you are interested in the post.

5. Discussion of committee roles and allocation of tasks amongst ordinary members (see below)

 

6. (Re)-election of chair, treasurer, and ordinary members

 

7. Presentation of 2018 RACE dissertation award

 

8. Report on 2018 RACE pre-conference event, and planning/suggestions for 2019 pre-conference event

 

9. RACE group marketing strategy

 

10. News and reports of upcoming events and achievements (including funding for Antipode workshop)

 

11. Update and promotion of AREA Race and Teaching special issues

 

12. Any other business


 

List of regular tasks to be allocated within and beyond RACE committee

1.         Dissertation prize

a.         Organisation: publicising the prize (email to RGS with paragraph about the prize); organising the marking; communicating decision to RGS

b.         Marking and decision-making: 6/7 volunteers, such that each dissertation is read, marked and discussed by two people

c.         Decision

2.         Website maintenance

Mainly involves posting events/news, and circulating any helpful resources

3.         Mailing list

Involves maintenance and updating

4.         Workshop coordination

Main workshops for last two years have been pre-RGS.  Require:

a.         Publicising

b.         Organising meetings

c.         Logistics/finance, e.g. room booking, resources for catering

d.         Liaison with contributors (speakers, faciitators)

5.         Publications coordination?

6.         Preparation of the annual report, using RGS template

7.         Attending RGS research group meetings (2-3 per year)
