Hi Molly

We are more than happy for you to use any of the activities in our Plastics challenge, really popular with primary and secondary.  It includes and activity for pupils to make their own bioplastics and a product out or either reused or recycled plastics.

Dear Everyone,

I am a student at UCL, doing a summer internship under Dr Anna Roffey, in which we hope to create an outreach workshop for Key Stage 2 students, focusing on plastics, recycling and sustainability.

Whilst I have been doing my research in to possible project ideas, I came across this already existing project, Precious Plastics, that enables anyone to create their own plastic recycling workshop.

We are quite interested in seeing if this would be possible to do to take to the primary schools to show them how recycling happens, but to make it portable and therefore smaller scale. We could perhaps create the shredder at half the size suggested, and maybe use a hand crank or a gear box attached to a bike instead of a motor. We would also only make one machine to create the new plastic products. Although we thought the injector would be the best idea for us, it is bulky and would not be transportable, and I was wondering if you may have any suggestions or know of any contacts that I may be able to get in touch with to talk about modifying it.

I only have 6 weeks to make this project happen so I am looking in to other ideas for the workshop, using less complex machinery, but I thought it would be worth a few questions to see whether this would be possible to do.

Thank you,

Molly.
